Ah, remember the early days of Angry Birds? Back when we were still fascinated by those frustrated feathered creatures and the hogs they so vehemently want to take down? That’s when writer and physicist Rhett Allain published his original “Physics of Angry Birds” article, which used the original game to examine some real-life physics theory and equations.

Now, Allain is back to take a look at the Angry Birds Space sequel/spinoff/update and the physics contained therein. As you might imagine, there’s quite a bit to work with here — the Space version includes gravity around smaller planets, so Allain is able to actually go through the various equations that govern movement between two different bodies.

It’s a nice long read (especially interesting if you’re into math and physics, of course), but basically Allain finds that the birds aren’t really dealing with gravity, just a coded representation of such. And perhaps more interestingly, Allain also says that the Space version of the birds contains pretty much, in a physics sense, the same slingshot as the original version. This makes sense (it’s easier to code, obviously, having already done it once), but it also means that even though birds are floating through space in the spinoff, and flying across the ground in the first title, they’re still starting with that same initial speed and force in both.

Yeah, here’s the way to make your iPhone even more attractive to thieves. Add a money clip to it, and then make sure that you put a wad of cash or a couple of credit cards in the clip.

The Poddities Money Clip for iPhone 4 (US$32.80) is available now and comes complete with a screwdriver to glom this clip right onto your iPhone. That way, when the thieves go to grab your credit card and folding money, they can be sure to take the iPhone at the same time. To that, we say No Comment.

If you’re around Los Angeles and need some new headphones this weekend, your local Apple Store has a deal for you. To celebrate the NBA All-Star Game, Skullcandy is selling its NBA All-Star Aviator headphones in Apple Stores exclusively, this weekend only. At $180 they’re not cheap, but they are some serious premium headphones.

If you’re the kind of person who likes owning exclusive gear, and you were planning on picking up a nice pair of headphones anyway, they’re yours to hunt down and buy… unless you’re an NBA All-Star player, in which case Skullcandy is giving you a set already, personalized with your own signature and jersey number. Most of us aren’t NBA All-Stars, so everyone else will have to head out to the mall. If you do pick up one of these this weekend, let us know how it goes. This seems like a weird deal for Apple to host officially, considering the small potential audience.

TeamViewer Great Free App For Controlling Parents

,coach outlet store

If you’re the person in your family or circle of friends that always seems to be asked computer questions, or are simply the person asking for help, what you really need is software that allows remote access between computers. That way, you can diagnose and fix problems from across the country without having to leave your desk.

I’ve tried a few different apps,coach-handbags, but finally stumbled across an app called TeamViewer. The setup is easy, coach handbags outlet, and works without having to mess with firewalls or router settings. You simply download the application on both computers, and then swap the provided access codes in order to let someone else control your computer. As long as the person you’re helping can download a file off the internet, you’re good to go. Now, I can control the mouse on my parent’s computer and see exactly what they are seeing on their screens. You can also use it to transfer large files directly between computers.

It works for Windows, Mac,coachbuy, Linux, and there are even iPhone and Android apps. It got 5 out of 5 stars from CNET Editors, and 4.5 out of 5 per user reviews. Best of all, it is completely free for non-commercial use. This program has already saved me hours of time, without having to provide a credit card or deal with time limits or 30-day trials. I just wish I found it sooner.

More Ways To Increase Your Free Dropbox Storage M

I love Dropbox. I like that it’s a real folder on my computer that is also invisibly synchronized and backed up in the cloud. The best part is that usually I forget it’s even there. Other online storage apps like Box.net or SkyDrive don’t work nearly as seamlessly for me.

The Dropbox free version offers up 2 GB of storage free to start, coach outlet store, which you can increase to nearly 20 GB with various tasks. It may not be big enough for a full backup, coachbuy, but plenty for my important files. Check out this Lifehacker guide that details all the possibilities. You get 250 MB free by signing up under a referral link,coach-handbags, and I get 250 GB extra too. I’ve only gotten 3 referrals up until now, coach handbags outlet, but with other stuff was already at 4.5 GB free.

Today Lifehacker adds that right now if you install their new Beta version which lets you automatically back up photos and videos from your cameras/phones when connected to your computer, coachoutletbags, Dropbox will give you even more space – for every 500 MB of photos and videos automatically uploaded, you’ll receive another 500 MB of space permanently, up to 4.5 GB total. I synced up the photos from my iPhone and already have another free gig and counting. Sweet.

Estimate Your 2011 Portfolio Rate of Return – Cal

Some of you may be wondering how well your specific portfolio performed last year. Let’s say you started the year with $10,000 and put in another $5,coachoutletbags,000 throughout the year, and ended up with $16,coach-handbags,000. What was your rate of return? Your main goal is simply to separate the effect of new deposits (or withdrawals) and your actual return from investments.

Figuring out your exact personal rate of return requires you to know the exact dates of all your deposits and withdrawals, along with a financial calculator or software program with an IRR function. However, for an simple and quick estimate of your returns, coach handbags outlet, try this calculator instead:

Instructions

Get your initial balance. This is probably from your brokerage statements. Try January of last year.
Tally up any deposits or withdrawals. For example, maybe you put $3,000 in your Roth IRA and also put in 5% of your $40,000 salary into a 401(k). That would be $3,000 + $2,000 = $5,000. If you paid a lot in fees or commissions, include those. No need to worry about the dates.
Get your final balance. Your December statement is probably available already.
Find the time elapsed (in years) between your initial and final balances.
Hit Calculate. An estimate of your annualized return is instantly given.

How Good Is This Estimate?
The calculator assumes that the inflows and outflows are spread evenly around the middle of the year. I originally saw this method in The Four Pillars of Investing (review). However, unless the deposits and withdrawals are very large as compared to the initial balance, the estimates are actually pretty good.

For example, coachbuy, let’s say that you start with $100,000 on 1/1/11, and end up with $120,000 on 1/1/11. If you had net deposits of $10,000 during the year, the calculator above would estimate your return at 9.52%. If the $10,000 was actually deposited all at once on one of these specific days, you would get the following exact returns:

I Want Exact Numbers Too!
For everything you ever wanted to know about rate of return and then some, see Gummy Stuff. I must warn you that it’s very math intensive. If you just want to know how to figure out the numbers, coach outlet store, see his XIRR page. You’ll need the exact dates of all your fees, commissions, deposits, and withdrawals.

Continental OnePass Plus Card Free 30,000 Miles,
